World Traveler’s Room

I can tell by looking at the room that a world traveler lives there. It is a unique room full of foreign things. While pulling a Japanese-style sliding door, I smell a thick aroma of coffee from Brazil all through the room. On my right hand side is a hard table. There are one digital camera, two single-lens reflex cameras and a number of rolls of films. Next to the cameras and films, there is a large square-type gray frame brought from Japan. Inside the frame, there are lots of photos taken from all over the world by the world traveler. There are some moldy postcards as well. These are even giving off stench. Most of postcards are written about the traveler’s mood of the moment while he was traveling in that city. On the left side of the frame, a large size world map is placed on the white wall. On the map, there are some flags there. The traveler has visited places where the flags are placed. These places include Berlin, New York, London, Melbourne, Beijing, and so on. Beside the map, there is an Italian-style bed which is a gift from an Italian woman. The traveler helped her when he went to Italy. I feel great when lying on this soft bed. Under the bed, there are several WorldTravel magazines and flight information from all over the world. I open one of magazines, and find that lots of notes are scribbled in the margins there. Most of notes are about something the traveler needs to know, such as the weather, the train routine, the fee, and so on. Then on my left side there is a medium bookshelf. There are lots of souvenirs, including a basketball, a small wooden chair and a ticket. The basketball is signed by the well known NBA star Michael Jordan. The small wooden chair is made in Sweden. It is a commemoration of the traveler’s being in twenty countries, and Sweden is the 20th country. At last, and the most precious one for the world traveler is the ticket for the opera, Cats in the Broadway while in his first time going abroad.

An Earthquake Experience

“You never really know people until you see them in an emergency” is always good advice, as I learned after experiencing a strong earthquake. It was about six months ago. I lived with my new roommate called Sandy. It was at midnight. While I was doing my English homework, all of a sudden there was a huge shake. “Wake up, Sandy! Rush out the door right now!” I shouted. We ran down the floors as fast as we could. Then something happened. As I ran to the fifth floor, I strained my legs. As soon as Sandy saw it, she immediately went back and said, “Don’t be afraid. I will be with you. Let’s go to the nearest column first.” I felt touched that she would do such a thing at that moment. Luckily, the 7.6-magnitude earthquake stopped ten seconds later. Sandy then supported me with her hand and went back to our room. She took a towel and some ointments and tended me. What’s more, the next day, she even got up early in order to accompany me to see the doctor. In addition, during the time that I got hurt, she not only helped me to buy my three meals on weekdays, but also escorted me to my classes even if she had another class. She even stayed in the dorm on the weekend as well. All she did was to take good care of me until I recovered. She didn’t show any impatience or complaints of anything. I appreciated her very much for the fact that she was always on my side whenever I needed her. To sum up, I knew Sandy better from this incident.

An Ambitious Person

One of my friends called Mandy is an ambitious person. For one thing, she is ambitious in her school work. For the sake of preparing the English report, she not only spends one hour going to the library to search for more information, but also spends two more hours discussing with classmates. Another example of Mandy’s ambition is that she always attends every competition in school in order to prove that she can do it. It was the time when she was in grade four in the elementary school. There was a national competition about dancing. Mandy really wanted to join the team. In order to pass the audition, Mandy is very strict to herself. She almost spent her lunchtime practicing every day, never giving up even if she sprained her legs. What’s more, she even went on a diet to keep a good shape. She did not eat starchy food and did exercises everyday .One week later, she succeed in losing five kilogram. As a result, Mandy passed the audition and played an important role in the contest. Finally, she is ambitious in learning musical instruments as well. Take playing the piano for instance. In order to achieve the goal-- passing the piano test in level seven, she spent two hours playing the piano everyday after school, as well as does on weekends. Even she dreamed that she was playing the Early Spring while sleeping at night. She is definitely a girl full of ambition.
